Project:

DotchGame (original)

DotchGame. is a Java game that I made when I was 14 years old. Players must dodge enemies and earn points for upgrades.

Development

DotchGame.

During the summer holidays of 2017-2018, when I was 14 years old, I developed DotchGame. using Java. While actively learning Java, I created a working game with the help of a YouTube tutorial. DotchGame. features three game modes, each becoming progressively more difficult. The goal is simple yet challenging: dodge the flying objects for as long as possible while moving across the screen.

Gameplay & Mechanics

In DotchGame, you control a white square using the W/A/S/D keys or the arrow keys. Different types of enemies make the game dynamic: blue entities move quickly up and down, yellow ones move in all directions, red ones are slightly slower, and purple ones chase the player to prevent them from standing still. After 15 levels, there is a stopover where a large final boss moves from left to right and fires projectiles. Players can pause the game with the P key and open the shop with the spacebar. In the shop, points can be spent on upgrades such as extra health or faster movement, with the cost per upgrade increasing each time.
